Our courses

Year 12

All students take A levels in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. All students also study Physics in Year 12.

From September 2025 onwards, the fourth subject in Year 12 will be either Computer Science, Economics or Philosophy. 

All students in Year 12 also complete the King’s Certificate, which is a substantial collaborative project set by a KCL academic or an industry representative in an area relating to the mathematical sciences that culminates in a journal article and presentation given to students, staff, parents and carers, governors, academics and industry representatives.

The broader curriculum in Year 12 includes:

  • A weekly skills development session for the King’s Certificate
  • A weekly problem solving session with a PhD student
  • A weekly personal development session
  • The opportunity to attend a range of clubs and societies
  • The opportunity to attend a range of talks from visiting speakers
  • A weekly sport/exercise session on a Friday afternoon
  • An optional modern language taster course provided by KCL
  • A fortnightly afternoon of mathematical extension, working towards Senior Mathematical Challenge and other extension problems and papers.

Year 13

Students are prepared for A2 examinations in:

  • Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • From September 2025 onwards, students will be able to pick one of Physics, Computer Science, Economics or Philosophy to take to A Level. 

Students may wish to complete an Extended Project Qualification, and/or to take extension courses through the Curriculum X programme in mathematics, physics, computer science and economics, taught by KCLMS teachers and lecturers from KCL. 

The broader curriculum for Year 13 includes:

  • Optional EPQ and Curriculum X sessions as described above, both developing university level learning skills in different ways
  • An optional weekly university preparation session in which students are supported to prepare for various extension papers (PAT, MAT, TMUA, CSAT, STEP, AEA etc)
  • A weekly personal development session
  • The opportunity to attend a range of clubs and societies
  • The opportunity to attend a range of talks from visiting speakers
  • A weekly sport/exercise session on a Friday afternoon
