King’s Maths School Wins Two Sunday Times Awards
King’s College London Mathematics School has been awarded the prestigious titles of Sixth Form College of the Year 2025 and Sixth Form College of the Year for Academic Excellence 2025 by The Sunday Times in the Parent Power schools guide.
The class of 2024 attained the school’s best-ever results, helping the school to outperform every other school in the country for A Level results. Across Maths, Further Maths & Physics A Levels, students achieved a record-breaking 77% A*, 97.6% A*-A and 99.5% A*-B grades.
Head Teacher Timothy Bateup commented: “I am absolutely delighted that The Sunday Times has recognised our performance, which is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of all those within our close-knit school community. We are so proud of the exceptional, world-class education we provide. However, the real credit for these awards must go to our inspirational teachers and our energetic and brilliant students.”
Opened in September 2014 in partnership with King’s College London, KCLMS’ mission is to provide opportunities for students with an interest and aptitude for mathematics, especially to those from backgrounds currently under-represented in the mathematical sciences.
The Chair of the Governing Body, David Benello, said: “These awards are a tribute to the incredible community of staff, students, parents and carers and governors who make KCLMS the most wonderful place to learn. This school truly embraces research-led thinking, ideas and teaching techniques to enable young mathematicians to realise their talents and ultimately thrive in a range of STEM-related careers.”
King’s Maths School has reached numerous milestones including being recently rated Outstanding again with Ofsted inspectors noting that “the quality of teaching is exceptionally high” and that “students grow into confident, articulate scholars who are well prepared for demanding undergraduate courses.”
Mr Bateup concluded: “This success is the culmination of continued work over many years. As such, it is important that we also recognise the contributions of those excellent staff members who have left in recent years and in particular the former Head, Dan Abramson OBE. I would also like to underscore how these awards are a ringing endorsement of specialist maths education and the huge impact we and our sister Maths schools in the U-Maths network are having on the talented STEM graduates of tomorrow.”
