King's Maths School

Over 50 alumni from the Class of 2024 recently visited KCLMS to reconnect with one another and share their experiences of university, apprenticeships and other life lessons with current students. The day was a celebration of peoples’ time at KCLMS, a chance to catch up with teachers, and an opportunity to explore what has changed at the school. 

Laughter echoed through the hall as everyone reminisced about the good old days and swapped stories. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as alumni mingled with current students and shared their insights. 

Year 12 student Navdha said: "It was very useful to be able to talk to people who have gone through the process and understand how to pick a course and discuss their university experience so far. It was really eye-opening."

Alumnus Arya Bhattacharya, who is studying Engineering at Cambridge, said: "It was a pleasure to meet the year 13s and year 12s. Many of them asked the same questions I asked in those two years. It was brilliant to see so many students take such initiative. It reminded me that what makes KCLMS special is not the building it's in, nor just the teachers or the students. It is only when they are all brought together that such a special place becomes a reality."

Students also had the chance to speak to alumni who have chosen the apprenticeship route such as Pranshu Patel. Pranshu started a degree apprenticeship with Ernst & Young in 2024 and is working towards the ICAEW qualification and becoming a chartered accountant.

Pranshu said: “It was refreshing coming back to KCLMS. I really enjoyed meeting the new students. To think back that this was me two years ago is a bit of a weird feeling. It got me thinking about how time has flown by really quickly. KCLMS is such a special and unique place."

Pranshu shared some of his top tips when it comes to applying for apprenticeships including researching your career thoroughly and from there deciding which path you would like to take. 

The gathering was a testament to the unique learning environment KCLMS offers. Our alumni are living proof of the lasting impact that our nurturing and stimulating education has had, not only on their academic journeys but also on the friendships and bonds they formed.

Arya said: "It was only after leaving KCLMS that I realised just how special it really is. I enjoyed meeting my old classmates and teachers in what now feels like a mathematical wonderland. The extent to which the staff go to create such an environment is unparalleled. Only at KCLMS have I met so many people in such a small area who are so genuinely interested in the mathematical sciences." 

KCLMS is very proud of the close-knit community that we have built, and we look forward to welcoming even more of our alumni to future events. Here’s to many more gatherings filled with joy, shared memories, and the celebration of lifelong connections. Thank you to everyone who attended the recent get-together. 

Head Teacher Timothy Bateup concluded: “We have big plans for the next decade and our ambitions are built on strong foundations and that includes our network of alumni. We thank them for the part that they continue to play in helping us create a caring community that is united by a love for the mathematical sciences. It’s wonderful that our alumni help and inspire current students by coming back and speaking about their career paths and achievements and getting involved in school events.”
