In your own words, what is King’s Maths School?
It’s a collection of really talented mathematicians who come together to learn about and enjoy mathematics together.
What is exciting about King’s Maths School?
Everyone here loves maths, so everyone is really focused and dedicated to their studies. It’s a really good place to learn, and that’s quite exciting.
As a new student, what at King’s Maths School are you looking forward to?
Expanding my maths knowledge. I’m looking forward to starting pure maths because I really love maths. I found GCSE a little easy, so I want to be stretched even more, and understand even more about maths through the specialist lectures our school provides.
I am also looking forward to the extra curriculum activities they do here to help develop us in different ways. One example is the King's Certificate, which will improve my communication, team work and interpersonal skills. That’s all really good, as those are the key things that are really important to employers and therefore will make me a much more attractive candidate.
What are the teachers like?
They’re really nice and are really knowledgeable about their subjects; I could ask them any question I wanted and they would know the answer. If ever I am unsure about anything I can go to them, and ask for their help.
What subject do you want to study at university?
I am considering maths. Maths is a really useful skill to have, and it doesn’t limit your career prospectus. I think employers like maths because it proves you can think clearly and logically, which are good skills to have.
How do you expect King’s Maths School to get you there?
I saw the maths school’s results, and they were really, really good.
I think going to a specialist maths school shows that I am willing to dedicate myself to the study of maths. However, it is taking part in the extra-curricular opportunities that the school provides, such as taking part in mathematic competitions, which will really show universities that I love maths. These are attributes that universities really want to see from a strong candidate.
What career do you want to go into?
I am not sure at the moment. The good think about maths is that it is so broad, and so many employers like it, that it doesn’t limit my career prospects. It gives me more time to make up my mind and have a better decision.
