In your own words, what is King’s Maths School?

It’s a place where, if you love maths, you can really hone your passion and your skills in mathematics and just improve in general.

How did you find out about King’s Maths School?

I attended a summer school in Year 10 and we were taught by the maths school teachers all week. That’s when I first heard about the school. After taking part in the GCSE Enrichment Programme in Year 11, I decided I wanted to come back for my A Levels.

So, the GCSE Enrichment Programme make you feel that King’s Maths School was the right place for you?

Absolutely! I knew the quality of teaching here was good, because they helped us with our GCSE Maths. The guidance the teachers gave us was really helpful to our exams, and this was something that influenced our choice of college.

What at King’s Maths School are you looking forward to?

I’m really looking forward to learning more maths outside of the syllabus. In other schools, you may have a one hour maths lesson a day, and that’s it. At King’s Maths School, they go beyond that! There is a maths element around the school at any time if you want to explore it.

What are the teachers like?

They are all very friendly, and are always ready to help with practically anything. If you see a teacher, you can ask them a random question and they will try their best to help you, whether that be sending you to the right teacher or helping you find the answer themselves.

What subject do you want to study at university?

Maths with physics, or maybe just maths. I may not know exactly what course I want to study, but I know it will be mathematical. Therefore coming to King’s Maths School was crucial, as it really immerses you in maths. However, we are not just taught maths to progress to a maths degree. Maths is a foundation for a lot of subjects, and the things we are taught here will better equip us for degrees in computing, engineering and physics too. That is why I had to come here!

What career do you want to go into?

I want to be a researcher and just learn more and discover more about maths and physics. We’ve had lectures where we see other researchers who have completely immersed themselves in a topic they are passionate about. That has really inspired me to do something similar and to find that topic in maths or physics that I really want to study further.
