In your own words, what is King’s Maths School?
King’s Maths School is a place for students who have a very specific interest in the STEM subjects. It is a place where they can feel comfortable and well catered for in terms of their interests and needs, and where they can develop their skills. Students here naturally have a more logical way of thinking, and clearly have an infinity and passion for maths. Whether they are quiet or more outspoken, you can be certain that everyone is on the same wavelength.
What is exciting about King’s Maths School?
It’s exciting because I finally get to be in an environment where I am surrounded by so many like-minded people! Although we are specialising in the same area of study, we are also a very diverse group of individuals who interact with and grow from each other.
As a new student, what at King’s Maths School are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to Computer Science as I’ve never done it before. It sounds incredibly interesting, especially as we will be applying and using maths in a way I’ve never come across doing before.
I am also looking forward to studying maths here, because I know I am in a place where everyone is enthusiastic about it. Teachers are incredibly supportive. They whole-heartedly invest in every student, so every student will be extremely invested in their studies, so I know I’ll have nothing to worry about! I’m looking forward to being surrounded by so many people who have a passion for their education.
What are the teachers like?
The teachers are all incredibly welcoming, you know you that there is that support system and you don’t ever need to feel lost because they’re always there to fall back on and help you.
The best thing is you can gage their passion for their subject from the moment you meet them. Whether they are inside or outside the classroom, they are just bursting with enthusiasm and you can’t help but have that rub off on you! You know nothing is going to be dull because as long as your teacher has passion, you are going to feed off it!
What subject do you want to study at university?
I clearly have a passion for maths, and I know I want to do something with that. I suppose something in that general field of study would be wonderful. I expect the maths school to give me a greater understanding of the subjects, but also a greater understanding of myself, and my own strengths and passions. I expect this to continue throughout my time here, and that will help me find what I want to pursue and how deep my passion runs.
