Maria Chait

Maria Chait is a professor of Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London. Her academic journey spans across different continents, beginning with undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Economics, and East Asian studies in Israel. Subsequently, she pursued her PhD in Neuroscience in the United States, was a visiting researcher in Japan, engaged in postdoctoral research in France, and eventually settled in the UK.
At University College London, Maria leads a dynamic research lab that delves into the intricacies of how individuals utilize sound to comprehend their surroundings. Beyond her research endeavours, she holds key responsibilities at UCL, including leadership of the Dual Masters in Brain and Mind Sciences program and serving as a member of the UCL Neuroscience domain steering group.
Maria's extensive international background, having resided and worked in Russia, Israel, Japan, the USA, France, and the UK, equips her with a profound understanding of global education systems and diverse cultural perspectives. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to advancing STEM education and fostering inclusivity, particularly advocating for individuals from underrepresented groups and girls/women to engage with and pursue fulfilling careers in STEM fields.
